From a combination of steel mill waste and end-of-life tires, researchers at ENEA and University of Brescia have obtained a recycled rubber suitable for new industrial productions like soundproofing or anti-vibration mats. The results, published in the international Journal of reinforced plastics and composites, stem from a collaboration for the efficient use and sustainable management of resources through the new 'Sustainability Technologies' Laboratory of the ENEA Department of Sustainability of Production and Territorial Systems established at the University of Brescia (UNIBS).
A research team from ENEA, Cnr, and the Universities of Cagliari and Sassari has developed an innovative model to study marine circulation, particularly in the Mediterranean, and identify the causes of coastal erosion and the evolution of beaches, including that of Stintino in Sardinia, as reported by a study published in a special issue of the international journal Geological Society Publications.
Recovering magnesium from seawater desalination brine is one of the latest ENEA ground-breaking research innovations to achieve a circular economy, published in the journal Environment, Development and Sustainability.
"Given its strategic importance, we have dedicated a line of research to the extraction of magnesium from brines and produced and published a review preparatory to the activities under way", said Danilo Fontana, researcher at the ENEA Laboratory of Technologies for the Reuse, Recycling, Recovery and Valorisation of Waste and Materials.
Making new bakery products with high added value based on proteins and beneficial molecules from the agri-food industry waste is the objective of the project PROVIDE, funded with approximately around one million euro comprising six international partners, including ENEA. The first results were presented in Rome at the Sapienza University during an open event organized by the ENEA in collaboration with Metrofood-IT.
A team of ENEA researchers, jointly with the University of Cassino, has calculated the aging of lithium-ion battery storage systems in electric cars charging stations and the consequent impact on construction and management costs of a road charging column equipped with a photovoltaic system. The results, published in the open access journal Energies, are based on data collected for one year in eleven public charging stations installed in the Barcelona metropolitan area, as part of the European project USER-CHI on future mobility.
