Developing technologies to monitor and analyse the physical risk of critical national infrastructures is the subject of the Agreement signed in Rome by President of ENEA Gilberto Dialuce and President of the INGV Carlo Doglioni, during an event at the CNEL headquarters attended by representatives of institutions and companies in the sector, including the President and the General Secretary of the CNEL, respectively Tiziano Treu and Francesco Tufarelli.
For the first time in Italy a mixture of biofuel and kerosene was tested on a military jet, showing a reduction of up to 40% of polluting emissions, as shown by a study published in the international journal Toxics, which also investigated the overall impact of these new aviation fuels on health and the environment. The study was conducted by an ENEA team in collaboration with the Italian Air Force, as part of a cooperation agreement on the use of biofuels in aviation, which also involves the Cnr and the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security.
Molecules extraction from pomegranate by-products and residues to produce beneficial supplements and nutraceuticals is the objective of NewTriPome, a novel ENEA research project which brings together the expertise and technological platforms of four laboratories of the Casaccia Research Center (Rome) engaged on health and biotechnology issues in the agri-food sector.
An innovative plasma process to manufacture powders to be used in 3D printing of complex components for the aerospace, biomedical and robotics sectors has been developed by an ENEA team at the Portici Research Center (Naples), where a prototype plant based on thermal plasma technology has been designed and installed.
A robotic assistant to work alongside humans and in some cases replace crew members of orbital space missions in the maintenance and monitoring of external structures, to relieve stress and reduce risks, was developed by ENEA and Rome University "Tor Vergata" as part of the two-year project TORVEastro, funded by the Lazio Region through the company Lazio Innova.
The ENEA CRESCO supercomputer provided 150 million computing hours in one year to 150 users of research institutions and companies, as shown by the report High Performance Computing on CRESCO Infrastructure: research activity and results 2021, which collected the main results available in various research fields like materials science, energy, climate, nuclear technologies, molecular dynamics, plasma physics and biotechnology.
