The Memorandum stems from the desire of Confindustria Assoimmobiliare and ENEA to work together to jointly develop support, information and studies of energy efficiency and environmental sustainability in the real estate sector, promoting a more conscious energy transition. This partnership continues the joint work already done with the Guidelines for the drafting of the Compulsory Energy Diagnosis in the real estate sector following the enactment of Italian Legislative Decree 102/2014.

ENEA has inaugurated two labs in the Kilometro Rosso Science and Technology Park, one of Europe's leading innovation districts, one of the labs being dedicated to advanced technologies and services in the field of “Sustainable Materials and Industrial Processes 4.0” and the other to “Technologies for Smart Cities”. The initiative follows on from the bilateral cooperation agreements signed by the Agency with Kilometro Rosso, the University of Bergamo and the Lombardy Region, and envisages a total investment of €3 million, of which €2 million from ENEA and about €1 million from the region, to provide financial support for 13 ongoing doctorates.

Energy consumption grew again in the first quarter 2022 (+ 2.5%), up for the fifth quarter in a row, although it still stays below pre-pandemic levels. CO2 emissions are also growing (+8%), due to the increased use of fossil fuels (+7%) and the decrease of both electricity import (-20.5%) and renewable electricity (-9.5%). Main driver for the latter is the fall of hydro (-40%), while wind and solar power increased by 11%.

A platform to promote the diffusion of energy from the sea in the Mediterranean countries: this is one of the main results achieved by the European Blue DEAL project, co-funded with 2.8 million euro by the European Regional Development Fund and the Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance and coordinated by the University of Siena, in which 12 partners are participating including ENEA, from 6 countries (Italy, Albania, Cyprus, Croatia, Greece and Spain).

To create a European industrial battery supply chain to develop safer, more durable and cheaper storage technologies to support electric mobility and less dependence, in particular on China.

The second edition of the 'Carlotta Award 2022' reserved for female researchers under 40 years of age engaged in the genetic improvement of wheat and other cereals is now open. To participate in the award, applications must be submitted by 15 June 2022.
