ENEA has conducted a study demonstrating the anti-cancer potential of active biomolecules contained in the extract of the traditional Viterbo hazelnut Tonda Gentile Romana (Corylus avellana L.). Published in the international journal “Natural Product Research”, the findings of the study pave the way for future therapeutic and prevention developments for liver cancer.

The operational guide created by ENEA and Federalberghi to facilitate energy diagnoses in the hotel industry, which accounts for 4.4% of the electricity consumption of the entire tertiary sector, is online[1]. The monograph is part of the Quaderni dell’efficienza energetica, created as part of the Program Agreement for Electric System Research 2022-2024 funded by the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security.

The ENEA Lampedusa Atmospheric Observatory has entered the World Radiation Monitoring Center (WRMC), the large archive of the global Baseline Surface Radiation Network (BSRN), which provides data on solar and infrared radiation fluxes for the validation of satellite observations and climate modeling. The result - reached after a six-month evaluation period - was due to the excellent quality of the measurements, their uniqueness, and the representativeness of the vast Central Mediterranean area.

Patents, solutions and innovative methods to effectively recover and valorize materials in end-of-life photovoltaic panels and reuse them in industr, are some of the results ENEA achieved in the materials recovery sector, including critical ones, from decommissioned photovoltaic panels, for a sustainable supply of high added value raw materials for industry, in line with technological innovation and the circular economy.

Reinforcing historic buildings with innovative anti-seismic technologies and advanced sensor solutions with minimal visual impact is the goal of the RIPARA project, funded by the Lazio Region within the Cultural Heritage Technology District (DTC), which comprises ENEA, EdilCAM Sistemi company and Universities of Cassino and Southern Lazio, Sapienza and Roma Tre (the latter as coordinator). The new technologies - validated on ENEA's shaking tables - will make the buildings capable of withstanding more than twice the accelerations of the 2016 earthquake.

A nuclear medicine cancer treatment for patients who do not respond effectively to other treatments like radiotherapy is the objective of the project AlphaMet, funded by EURAMET, the European Association of National Metrology Institutes, a network of 17 European partners which includes ENEA and the National Institute for Metrology of Ionizing Radiation (INMRI), that will work together with their main European peers like the CEA, CIEMAT, CMI, NPL and POLATOM.
