Public lighting, Basilicata the first region in Italy to choose ENEA PELL platform

Basilicata is the first region in Italy to have joined the ENEA PELL public lighting platform [1], a monitoring system for public energy infrastructures to guide and support the transition towards more efficient, effective, resilient and sustainable cities. The information collected on 131 Lucanian municipalities will be evaluated through performance indicators, both at the urban and individual system level, to set up and define an infrastructure management process with a smart city and smart land perspective.

The platform will allow each municipality and the Region to access a georeferenced view of the lighting systems, with a consequent better possibility of planning interventions and quantifying investments.

“By joining the ENEA PELL platform for public lighting, Basilicata recognizes the importance of digitalizing the knowledge processes of strategic infrastructures for land management,” comments project coordinator Nicoletta Gozo of the ENEA Department of Energy Technologies and Renewable Sources.

The PELL platform is structured to operate in two distinct phases, one static and one dynamic, which differ in the type and methodology of the data collected. The static phase concerns the “identity data” of the infrastructure, useful for a census of lighting systems. The dynamic phase refers to the monitoring of the electrical and energy measurements of the system.

The PELL platform aims to become a reference information asset for the main energy-intensive infrastructures, including public lighting. The objective is to ensure that the platform itself becomes a national support tool for the knowledge, evaluation and planning of innovative interventions, as well as for the quantification of their cost and implementation times.

We hope that other regions will join PELL platform, to give a contribution to the digital transition process as a necessary step to achieve the energy and ecological transition targets”, concludes Gozo

With the PELL platform, ENEA contributes to a detailed mapping of national energy-intensive infrastructures also thanks to the interaction with strategic partners such as Consip and the Agency for Digital Italy. Through this mapping, it will also be possible to extrapolate relevant information for national and local governance, for stakeholders and citizens.
