Security: A project for CBRN emergencies showcased at the Winter Olympics
The Winter Olympics and Paralympics, with their influx of international visitors, provided an opportunity to showcase the project rescEU CBRN-DSIM-IT, led by an all-Italian consortium and designed to strengthen the European emergency response to chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear hazards (hence the acronym CBRN), which pose significant threats to public security, the environment and infrastructure.
Coordinated by ENEA and under the operational guidance of the National Fire Brigade, the project involves cross-sector collaboration between public and private partners, including the Veneto Region, Gemelli University Hospital, SAFE Foundation, Nucleco, Fatebenefratelli Sacco Social and Healthcare Company, National Institute of Health, ARPA Veneto, and the companies Tomassini Style and RI Group.
The vehicles, equipped with innovative technologies, have been presented in Verona, the city that hosted the closing ceremony of the Milan-Cortina Olympics and the opening ceremony of the Paralympics, with the dual objective of publicising what has been done to benefit the security of citizens and promoting good practices in emergencies.
The four-day exhibition offered the opportunity to visit the first mobile laboratories of the new firefighters' fleet, explore the technological solutions created for large-scale emergencies, and test the virtual and augmented reality training tools developed to train and educate the special team of operators for the new vehicles.
The showcase included an institutional presentation to the developments included in the achievement of this project milestone planned for the Winter Olympics.
