Nuclear Safety: ENEA joins the Scientific Council of French Authority ASNR

Federico Rocchi of ENEA has been appointed member of the Scientific Council of the French Nuclear Safety and Radiation Protection Authority (ASNR^[1]). Composed of eleven members representing the European scientific world, the ASNR Scientific Council contributes to the definition of the institution's policies and research orientations, supervising its quality and fostering dialogue with institutional, scientific and civil society stakeholders.

The appointment within the ASNR Scientific Council joins another position of international relevance already held by Federico Rocchi of the ENEA Nuclear Energy Systems Division. Since last year, in fact, he has been President of the ETSON association, which since 2006 has brought together sixteen technical organizations of scientific support to national nuclear safety authorities in Europe. A reference point for technical discussion on nuclear safety at the continental level, ETSON promotes the sharing of experiences, the convergence of nuclear safety analysis and verification practices, as well as the planning and implementation of research programs.

"The two positions, at the helm of ETSON and now also within the ASNR Scientific Council, place ENEA at the centre of European strategies on nuclear safety, strengthening the role of the Agency as a qualified partner for safety authorities and for the international scientific community in the nuclear safety sector", underlines Alessandro Dodaro, Director of the ENEA Nuclear Department.

Federico Rocchi, PhD in nuclear engineering, joined ENEA in 2010, mainly dealing with nuclear reactor safety and security. From 2017 to 2025 he has been Head of the Laboratory for the Safety of Nuclear Installations and, since 2019, he has represented Italy in the OECD/NEA/CSNI Committee for the Safety of Nuclear Installations. In addition to his positions in ETSON and ASNR, he is Chair of the Forum of the Technical Scientific and Support Organizations (TSOF) of IAEA, for which he participates as an expert in various support and assessment missions. Since 2015, he has been a member of the Italian delegation to the G7 Nuclear Safety and Security Group.
