Energy: Annual report on the certification of buildings presented in Brussels

The sixth Annual Report on the Energy Certification of Buildings, representing the main tool for monitoring and analyzing the energy performance of Italy’s building stock, has been presented during a conference held at the European Parliament headquarters. The Report was prepared by ENEA and the Italian Thermotechnical Committee for Energy and Environment (CTI) with the contribution of data provided by the Regions and Autonomous Provinces.

The event, which brought together EU institutions, energy agencies and stakeholders, was attended by the Vice-Chair of the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE), Elena Donazzan. It examined the role of Energy Performance Certificates (EPCs), the Smart Readiness Indicator and One-Stop Shops dedicated to energy retrofitting in strengthening Europe’s energy transition.

In addition to providing an updated and detailed overview of the energy efficiency of buildings in Italy, the Report made available new methodologies aimed at improving the quality of building energy certifications and integrating the registries of Energy Performance Certificates with those of Heating Systems at both regional and national levels. These measures are considered strategic to support public policies for building renovation and to contribute to achieving the decarbonization targets set at the European level.

Among the key figures highlighted, particular emphasis was placed on the improvement of the energy performance of Italy’s building stock: the most efficient residential buildings (classes A4–B) now account for 20% of the total, while the least efficient ones (classes F–G) have decreased to 45.3%.

A central focus of the Report presentation concerns the roadmap for the development of the Integrated Unified Cadaster, supported by a geo-referenced cartographic model capable of providing a powerful dashboard that is essential for decision-makers and strategic for governmental planning in the sector.”
