Energy: Regional cooperation, in Brussels the final event of the project meetMED II

The Mediterranean at the heart of a fair and sustainable energy transition

The closing event of the European project meetMED II “Mitigation Enabling Energy Transition in the Mediterranean Region,” promoted by MEDENER and RCREEE with the support of the European Union, was held in Brussels.

The event marked the conclusion of a four-year period of Euro-Mediterranean cooperation aimed at promoting energy efficiency, the development of renewable energies and market integration in the southern and eastern Mediterranean countries.

The event brings together national energy agencies, European institutional representatives, international experts and regional actors to discuss the results achieved and outline the priorities for the next phase of the project: meetMED III.

During the two days of work, participants were asked to assess the impact of the activities carried out by meetMED II, share strategies for a fair and inclusive energy transition and contribute to define the future prospects for regional energy cooperation.

The first day featured institutional presentations, thematic panels and in-depth discussions on national results, while the following day was dedicated to meetings with the meetMED Regional Experts Network (REN). The program took place concurrently with the UfM Green Week, promoting new synergies with members of the Union for the Mediterranean.

“The meetMED II project has demonstrated how Euro-Mediterranean cooperation can translate into concrete actions capable of strengthening institutions, mobilizing technical expertise and supporting the development of integrated energy policies. Our goal now is to continue this commitment into the next phase of the project, focusing on inclusion, innovation and sustainability,” said Giorgio Graditi, Director General of ENEA and President of MEDENER.

“In recent years, we have built a solid network of collaboration between experts and institutions in partner countries. meetMED III will be an opportunity to further strengthen this bond and carry out concrete and shared actions”, said Roberta Boniotti, Secretary General of MEDENER.
