Energy: Hydrogen, International Conference in Capri with ENEA
ENEA Director General Giorgio Graditi: “Its large-scale adoption is one of the key drivers of the energy transition”
The 11th edition of the European Fuel Cells and Hydrogen Conference – Piero Lunghi has officially opened in Capri (Italy) gathering leading international experts to discuss the pivotal role of hydrogen in the global energy transition. This year’s theme, “Hydrogen: From Vision to Reality – What’s Missing?”, sets the stage for high-level discussions on the challenges and opportunities in scaling up hydrogen technologies.
Until tomorrow, Friday, September 19th, more than 300 technical and scientific contributions will be presented, covering hydrogen production and storage, fuel cells both for transport and industry applications, the role of hydrogen in hard-to-abate sectors, and global policy and economic strategies.
The conference is chaired by ENEA, with Viviana Cigolotti, Head of the Division for Decarbonization Technologies, Hydrogen, Mobility, CCUS, and End Uses, serving as chairperson.
The opening plenary session featured key institutional figures, including Italy’s Minister for the Environment and Energy Security, Gilberto Pichetto Fratin, and ENEA Director General, Giorgio Graditi.
“ENEA began its research, development, and innovation activities on hydrogen and its end uses even before the 2000s, maintaining and strengthening them over the years even in a context characterized by alternating phases of enthusiasm and skepticism", noted Director General Graditi. "Today, as hydrogen is internationally recognized as a strategic energy carrier for the energy transition, ENEA is consolidating its role as a national and international reference point and renewing and further strengthening its commitment to support the entire supply chain, promoting its large-scale adoption as one of the key elements for the transition to a low-carbon economy”.

Organized by ATENA scarl, ENEA, the University of California – Irvine, and the University of Naples “Parthenope”, the conference stands out as a leading platform for dialogue among science, industry, institutions, and stakeholders aimed at identifing priority actions for building a robust hydrogen ecosystem.
